Pernille Harder Never Forgets Her Headband
Pernille Mosegaard Harder, has grown up on the world stage to become one of the most highly regarded female footballers of the present era, inspiring a generation.
Her long blonde locks and headband combination grabs the attention of spectators all around the world, and her performances on the pitch shows that she is one of the most complete all-round footballers in the game.
Harder nailed her first contract in football in 2010, aged just 17, playing in Denmark’s Elitedivisionen. During this time, she was already a regular for the Danish football team, after making her debut in 2009. She started to score goals on a regular basis, and even achieved two hat-tricks as a teenager for her country. At this young age, she was showing glimpses of her world-class potential, and was sought after by clubs all around Europe. She left her native land, but stayed in Scandinavia to play for Swedish club Lingpokins in 2013. It was there where she scored four goals in the one match as a 20 year old, in her first year at the club, showing further her goal scoring prowess. Her performances were integral to Linkpokins title winning seasons, and she went on to win ‘Player of the Year’ two years in a row – 2015 & 2016.
Following her success in Sweden, Harder felt that she needed move in her career, and opted for to sign for Wolsfburg, one of the biggest female football teams in the world. Pernille Harder had won the German league title, but the club had a strong desire to win the most coveted championship in world football – the Champions League trophy. Harder was integral to Wolfburg’s route to the final, and even scored in the final, but were beaten 4-1. Another chance will come for Harder as Wolfsburg continue to be one of the favorites.
Pernille Harder has a reputation of being a prolific scorer, and her statistics do not lie. She has scored at least a goal in every two games, for clubs and for her country, and at some clubs, her record is close to a goal per game. Her finishing and composure in front of goal is certainly second-to-none. However, one of the reasons she is highly regarded is due her skills, determination, and leadership. Despite playing as a forward, you’ll see her come into midfield, demanded the ball, either by receiving a pass or tackling, before going on a mazy run, with pace and trickery, setting up, or scoring goals. She has been captain for her country since the age of 23, and showed exactly why in Denmark’s European Championship run in 2017. She was once again pivotal to her team’s fortunes, and once again scored in the major final, only to be on the losing side once again.
Harder was seen as the best female football by British newspaper ‘The Guardian’ in 2018, and the headbanded captain fantastic deserves the title of ‘world-class’. She has always sported the headband since a young age, and also decides to change the colour depending on who she is playing for. She shows her patriotism by electing a red colour when playing for her country, and opts for different ones for her club. Inseparable from success, inseparable from her headband. Runner-up in 2018 for the Ballon d’Or, but it’s only a matter of time we see the Danish superstar rightfully earn a place a top of the summit.
