Carmelo Anthony is one of the best all-around basketball players that the league has ever seen. Every single year he has donned a headband while in the league going all the way back to 2003 when he was first drafted. He doesn’t have much hair for this headband to be useful, but that is beside the point in this case.
To showcase Anthony’s success into numbers, he has been an All-NBA team member on six separate occasions, and he has also been an NBA All-Star ten different times. This comes through his time with five different teams, which include the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Most of the Anthony’s time was spent playing for the Denver Nuggets whom he was drafted by and played for a total of eight years. What more people may know is his time with the New York Knicks when he was consistently the star of the show and went out and scored a majority of the points for the team on a nightly basis. This earned him the title of NBA scoring champion during the 2013 season, the second year he was on the Knicks. After playing for the Knicks from 2011-2017, some were worried that his career was over.
Since then, he went on one-year stints with his three final teams and has also slowly been moving up the all-time scoring list. Currently he sits in tenth play on the all-time scoring list and does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Anthony has now scored over 27,000 points which makes him only the 11th person to do so in the history of the NBA.
Despite his outstanding scoring abilities, he has never been able to make a solid run for the NBA Championship trophy. Even with his time on the Knicks and winning the scoring title, he only won one playoff series total. This hasn’t stopped him from winning championships however as he won the NCAA Championship even before he made it onto the professional stage. As a professional he has also won a few gold medals with the US Olympic team. Not only has he won gold medals, but back in 2016 he was the first person to win three gold medals in the history of US basketball. Again, his scoring is outstanding, and he holds the records for Team USA’s scoring leader. On top of that he was also the first team USA player to score 30 or more points in multiple Olympic Games.
Carmelo Anthony is by far one of the best basketball players to have ever worn a headband in sports. The headband look is also synonymous with Anthony across the league and for good reason. Many players wished they had the scoring abilities of Anthony, but the thing he still lacks is an NBA Championship. It does not look like he will win one anytime soon and it will be interesting to see how much longer he plays in the league.
