Darwin Nunez keeps scoring in his headband
The English Premier League is one of the biggest spenders in the transfer window. The 2022 summer transfer window saw Liverpool bring in one of Europe's deadliest finishers Darwin Nunez. After seeing off competition from Arsenal and Manchester United, Liverpool signed former Benfica striker for a club record fee of €100 million. Scoring 34 goals with four assists in 41 games in the 2021-22 season for Benfica, Darwin Nunez was able to command interest from the top football clubs in the world. He caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool officials by scoring in Benfica's home and away fixture versus Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
He is a top striker with a great athletic Physique, known for his pace, agility, and ability to strike the ball with both his feet and head. Nunez's stronger foot is his right, and he is a versatile player who can also play from the left flank. He scored two of his hat tricks for Benfica while playing from the left wing. His ability to also set up his teammates makes him a complete player.
Darwin Gabriel Nunez Ribeiro was born in Artigas on 24 June 1999 and currently plays in the Uruguayan national team. Nunez started his senior career with Penarol, having come through their youth academy. He joined the Spanish club Almeria in the 2019 summer transfer window for a club-record fee. His rise to stardom came after another club-record transfer to Benfica, the most expensive signing in Portuguese football history. He was named player of the season, the highest goal scorer in the Primeira Liga (top-tier Portuguese league) with 26 goals in 28 games in his second season at the club before another club-record deal to Liverpool. One thing that kept reoccurring in his career is that his major transfers have been a club record deal which shows that he is a top talent and one of the best finishers in the world.
Nunez was quick in putting his name on Liverpool's fan's lips scoring on his debut in a 3-1 victory against Manchester City in the community shield. He also scored and assisted Mohamed Salah on his premier league debut. Though Liverpool's dip in form has hindered him from adapting quickly to the EPL but has yet to stop him from scoring goals.
One of the distinctive features of Darwin Nunez is his headband, which and over time, has become his brand. Despite his full long hair, his black headband makes his hair look sleek and has enabled him to display his heading abilities scoring quite a number without the interference of his hair.
A defender's nightmare is a striker with pace, off-the-ball movement, great finishing with both the head and the leg, and the ability to create goals, and Darwin Nunez has all these attributes. With five goals and two assists in 7 starts for Liverpool in the EPL and 3 UEFA Champions League goals already, Darwin Nunez looks set to have a great spell with Liverpool.
