Aitana Bonmati; Barcelona’s Rising Star with Her Headband
Aitana Bonmati who is also known for her strength and intensity, is one of the key players in Barcelona right now. From Youth Club to playing in the final against Atletico Madrid; Aitana’s career has been full of ups and downs.
Aitana Bonmati wasn’t always fond of playing football. In fact, she used to play basketball until at the age of seven when she decided to take up football as her life’s choice sport.
She started off by playing in mixed teams. According to Aitana, it was her childhood matches which helped her grow into a stronger player – playing with opposite gender always required more physical strength.
After 2 years at the Juvenil-Cadet and bagging two league cups, her career took off as a Barcelona B player. During that time, she contributed immensely in winning the Second Division championship. Her astonishing performance of scoring 14 goals led her to the Barcelona first team.
Aitana Bonmati had been more involved in the games for first team as a substitute at the start of her first team career. But there’s no denying the fact that she had always been called in for important moments of the game.
Her debut for Barcelona’s first team was during the quarterfinals of Copa de la Reina where she played against Real Sociedad and assisted Barbara Latorre in scoring against her competitors.
The high time of her career started with her participation in Barcelona’s squad at the Copa Catalunya, where she proved herself by scoring in each match of the tournament. Barcelona went on winning 6-0 against Espanyol and Aitana Bonmati won her first senior title.
From that point onwards, Bonmati had the boost of confidence and she started scoring braces against teams.
Not only that, but her agility and pace won the internet when she outran Shanice van de Sanden to stop her from counterattacking.
After noticing Aitana Bonmati consistently proving herself on the field, she was approached by Bayern but, they failed to convince her. As a result, she signed the extension contract with Barcelona till 2022.
Atiana Bonmati won the hearts of her fans owing to her performance for Barcelona and Spain – winning the title of Catalan women’s player of the year.
Her career dipped low when she went through a period of injury. But, soon after recovery, she came on as a substitute against Real Sociedad and won Supercopa Femenina.
Bonmati won her first league title as a senior player when Barcelona were claimed as the league winner after the season 2019-2020 was suspended due to COVID-19.
She is now at the peak of her career, playing as a top choice for Barcelona. One of her recent achievements have been scoring in UEFA Women’s Champions League final and winning the title for her team. This earned her the spot in UWCL Squad of the season.
